One of the best batsman of all time, Mithali Raj was presented the Arjuna Award, the country’s highest honour for a sportsperson, by the Government of India in 2003. Her 214 against England in 2002 made her the world record holder for the highest individual score in Tests. She held that distinction till March 2004. She led India to the second spot in the 2005 World Cup played in South Africa and on a triumphant tour of England a year later. She was consistency personified as she led India to their fourth successive Asia Cup title in 2008, with an unbeaten 62 against Pakistan at the round-robin stage, and an unbeaten 66 against Sri Lanka in the final. Mithali became the first Indian to score 3000 ODI runs during the course of that tournament. She was India’s highest run-getter in the 2009 World Cup, with 247 runs from seven games at 61.75. She was also the highest scorer (from either side) in the ODI series against England in 2010. She currently holds the No.2 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings
